Apres Tour 2016: “Cycling in many facets” is the title of today’s Thuringian newspapers in multi-page coverage of the second edition of the Apres Tour Gera. Television crews were already reporting on Saturday from the cycling spectacle on site in Gera’s city center, where one highlight followed the other.

With Andre Greipel in the lead, the men’s elite fought for the podium places in the road race. With golden confetti rain for Hanka Kupfernagel ended the farewell race of the women. The exceptional athlete said goodbye to her fans and companions after 30 years of cycling at TOP level. The speed trial was followed by a derny race and Marcel Barth provided a good atmosphere as DJ.

The approximately 7,000 visitors were also eagerly awaiting the duel of bicycle sprinters vs. speed skaters. Robert won the 80m sprint duel against Toni Deubner from Eisenach with a score of 2:1. Robert had come directly from training at the Cottbus cycling track to the start in his hometown. “Gera is always worth a trip. I think the Apres Tour is a great event.” Asked about his season, Robert told the media: “Rio is over. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the team sprinters are successful. I’m training, the values are right. The next highlight is the German Championships at the end of August.
