After three runs, the German team sprinters, with Robert leading the way, raced to World Cup victory last night in Cali. Maximilian Dörnbach, Robert Förstemann and Max Niederlag were initially only eight understelseconds slower than the Poles in qualifying with 43.764 seconds. In the intermediate round against Spain Eric Engler started for Dörnbach and here the Germans secured their place in the grand final.

In the final, this time with Dörnbach for Niederlag, the Poles then had no chance against the Germans. After the first lap, the three Germans, with Robert in the lead, already secured a four-tenths of a second advantage. After the second lap it was six tenths of a second and finally one and a half seconds at the finish. “I am very happy about this result today, especially because it was such a great team performance” said Robert tonight after the victory. “The whole team was the key to success. All 4 drivers did a great job. With the women’s gold medal we had a perfect start on the first day with the maximum yield. Of course, this brings self-confidence and morale to the whole team. As for me, with the performances of the last 4 international competitions, I have established myself at the very front of the world’s top riders. This is a huge step forward compared to the past 1.5 years, which I am very happy about. The trend continues upwards.

Nevertheless, there is still a lot of work ahead of me. Cali was to be just a stopover on the way to Hong Kong.”
